Synopsis - Responding to a communique from a supposedly dead Cardassian informant, Odo finds the message was faked by Weyoun, who wishes to defect. Meanwhile, Nog, using Chief O'Brien's access code, starts making a slew of trades in order to obtain equipment to repair the Defiant's gravity field in three days instead of three months.
Treachery, Faith, And The Great River examines what it means to have faith in something. First with Weyoun's faith in the founder's then with Nog's faith in the Great River of the Continuum of Material Posessions. We learn more about the Vorta themselves in this episode, including their origins and how the founders found them. We see two more incarnations of Weyoun in this episode. The first Weyoun that we the viewer saw, was Weyoun Four back in To The Death where he was killed by a Jem'Hadar First for questioning their loyalty. Weyoun Five first appeared in Season Five's Ties Of Blood And Water as Gul Dukat's Vorta Dominion Advisor. Here we learn that Weyoun Five met his demise in a transporter accident about a month earlier. Weyoun Six was then activated, but when he proved to be defective by defecting to the enemy, Weyoun Seven was activated to track him down.
We also here that the Vorta's gods, the founders, are dying, eventually making Odo the last of his kind. This fact presents one flaw: How do the Founders in the Alpha Quadrant, know that the Founders in the Gamma Quadrant are suffering the same fate. This may not be a flaw however, as it may be revealed later this season.
On the Ferengi side of things, we learn they have faith in the Great River to provide them with what they need when they need it, all by making the right trades.
